Position: Clinical Nurse Specialist

Reports To: Clinical Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Role Summary: The Clinical Nurse Specialist is accountable for delivering comprehensive nursing care to patients, guided by the directives of a physician or physician extender.

Key Responsibilities:

• Proficient understanding of medical practices and patient care methodologies.

• Familiarity with examination, diagnostic, and treatment room protocols.

• Knowledge of medical apparatus and instruments.

• Awareness of prevalent safety risks and preventive measures within the clinical environment.

• Capability to assist in standard office procedures.

• Competence in measuring and recording vital signs in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

• Aptitude for identifying issues and seeking appropriate assistance.

• Skill in establishing and sustaining clinical quality assurance.

• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality while managing records.

• Proficiency in applying clinical guidelines and protocols.

• Capacity to utilize sound judgment and remain composed in emergency scenarios.

• Ability to foster effective working relationships with patients, medical personnel, colleagues, and the public.

• Execution of selected clinical and administrative tasks, assisting physicians and providers as part of the healthcare team.

• Conducting pre-visit preparations by reviewing and updating patient records prior to appointments.

• Analyzing and communicating lab results to physicians for further guidance.

• Preparing patients for examinations and treatments by escorting them from the waiting area to the examination room, while obtaining necessary vital signs and urinalysis, documenting all findings in EMR.

• Conducting and documenting monthly chronic care management sessions for enrolled patients.

• Ensuring cleanliness and maintenance of examination and treatment areas.

• Performing phlebotomy, administering injections, preparing labs for collection, assisting with EKGs, and providing other patient care services as directed by physicians and practice protocols.

• Managing clinical supplies and equipment effectively.

• Executing and documenting physician orders under the supervision of the Registered Nurse.

• Assisting with the scheduling of tests and treatments as required.

• Performing triage for patient inquiries regarding urgent appointments or interventions under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician.

• Offering patient health education, counseling, and guidance.

• Must possess reliable transportation.

• Maintain a valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Licensure:

1. Current licensure valid in Tennessee.

2. Current BLS certification.

Experience: Minimum of 12 months of professional clinical experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Ability to accurately measure vital signs.
  • Capability to perform and interpret urine test strips.
  • Ability to analyze lab results for physician reporting.
  • Proficiency in utilizing various equipment for examination and treatment.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to uphold quality control standards.
  • Skill in identifying problems and proposing solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic arithmetic proficiency.
  • Fundamental computer skills.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods; push, pull, and reach; occasionally bend, stoop, and stretch.
  • Full range of body motion.
  • Hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity for operating office equipment.
  • Normal hearing and eyesight for recording and communicating effectively.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to relocate to different job sites as needed.
