Job Summary:
This position is responsible for leading our Obedience Training Programs at Tractor Supply Company. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach basic obedience commands in a class environment, working with both customers and their pets. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance, working scheduled shifts and varied hours as dictated by business needs.
• Take the initiative to support selling initiatives, including thanking customers, engaging with them and their pets, advising on products or services, and making a positive impression.
• Create a positive, professional, and trusting environment for all valued associates and customers, answering phone calls and scheduling obedience classes as needed.
• Advise customers on the purchase of products necessary for obedience classes and at-home positive reinforcement training, following established procedures and protocols.
• Train customers and their dogs with patience, consistency, and sensitivity to their needs and the role they play in training their dog.
• Adhere to customer-specific needs and desires in training their dog, using non-physical techniques to keep the dog calm and in control.
• Report all accidents and injuries to the Store Manager promptly, properly filling out required obedience training forms as needed.
• Observe all safety rules and procedures, adhering to safety standards and promoting a safe and productive work environment for Team Members and customers.
Requirements:
• 1+ years of experience in a related field, with a strong background in animal behavior and training.
• High School Diploma or equivalent, with any suitable combination of education and experience considered.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
• Basic computer skills, with the ability to operate store equipment and software efficiently and accurately.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to resolve issues ethically and with minimal conflict, and to display compassion with animals and treat them accordingly.
Working Conditions:
• Working environment is favorable, generally working inside with moderate noise, with indoor floors and outdoor lots having hard surfaces (concrete, asphalt, etc.).
• Exposure to sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos and soaps, pets, and pet waste, with the ability to work in a variety of settings and adapt to changing conditions.
