Position Overview

The American Institutes for Research (AIR) is seeking a Research Intern to support our Youth, Family, and Community Development program, aimed at promoting equitable opportunities for youth and families.

This internship is part of a collaborative, multi-year research initiative with Oklahoma's Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), funded by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). The focus of this four-year study is to analyze the effects and implementation of recent legislative and administrative changes in juvenile justice policies in Oklahoma, particularly regarding community-based alternatives to youth incarceration.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will engage in various data collection activities, including:
1. Conducting document reviews and gathering online information related to juvenile justice initiatives in Oklahoma.
2. Processing and cleaning data obtained from OJA.
3. Conducting interviews with youth-serving organizations, young individuals, and their families across the state.

Results from these data collection efforts will be presented to key stakeholders through meetings and publications, contributing to the improvement of juvenile justice services both locally and nationally.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must be current students pursuing a bachelor's degree in fields such as economics, psychology, sociology, statistics, computer science, public policy, public health, or other related social sciences. A keen interest in the juvenile justice system and data collection practices is essential.

1. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
2. Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with diverse individuals.
3. Attention to detail and accuracy in written work.
4. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
