Job Overview

Position Title: Culinary Services Supervisor

Department: Food & Nutrition Services

The Culinary Services Department is dedicated to providing high-quality food and nutritional services to patients, staff, and visitors. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring that our culinary operations run smoothly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of Union contracted staff.
  • Oversee patient meal services, cafeteria operations, catering, and retail food services.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
  • Manage daily and weekly menu postings.
  • Maintain accurate accounting and personnel records.
  • Participate in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of food service personnel.
  • Assist in developing policies that align with the operational standards of a leading academic medical center.
  • Conduct opening and closing procedures for various food service locations.
  • Train and guide Cooks and Food Servers to meet quality standards in food preparation and service.
  • Collaborate with industry standards to enhance the overall food service program.
  • Support operational needs as required, including lifting and moving items up to 50 lbs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven supervisory experience in a large-scale food service environment.
  • Experience with food service inventory management and scheduling systems.
  • Strong leadership and performance management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relational database programs.
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer service.
  • Understanding of menu terminology and food service ordering processes.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety regulations, including California Retail Food Code and HACCP.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Culinary degree.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Experience in a unionized work environment.
  • Familiarity with scheduling and timekeeping systems.

Special Requirements:

  • Availability to work weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to transport items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to travel between various locations for catering events.
  • This position may require background checks and health assessments.
