POSITION SUMMARY:

We are seeking a dedicated Paralegal to assist attorneys throughout the critical case lifecycle, encompassing both pre-litigation and litigation phases. This role involves a range of responsibilities including conducting legal research, reviewing medical expenses, addressing lien disputes, and managing legal documentation. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of litigation processes, exceptional organizational abilities, and the capacity to handle multiple cases simultaneously. This position specifically addresses cases involving severe injuries or fatalities, such as medical malpractice, neglect in nursing homes or assisted living facilities, failure to utilize an AED in public spaces, sexual assault, product liability, negligent security, and wrongful death in vehicular incidents.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support attorneys in case preparation by drafting and filing legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests, as well as preparing trial binders, exhibits, and witness lists.
  • Conduct client intakes, establish new client files, and prepare necessary correspondence.
  • Oversee all aspects of cases during both pre-litigation and litigation stages.
  • Coordinate with expert witnesses, draft Notices of Intent, and prepare pre-litigation discovery for cases involving nursing homes, assisted living, and medical malpractice.
  • Perform legal research to inform case strategies and assist in the preparation of legal documents.
  • Organize and maintain case files, evidence, and other legal documentation, ensuring adherence to court regulations and deadlines.
  • Manage the discovery process in litigation by preparing requests, responses, and relevant documentation.
  • File legal documents with courts and administrative bodies, while monitoring case timelines and deadlines.
  • Assist attorneys during trial preparations and proceedings, including managing exhibits, coordinating witness appearances, and organizing trial logistics.
  • Execute administrative tasks as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Paralegal Studies or equivalent.
  • Paralegal certification (e.g., from FRP) is required.
  • A minimum of three years of experience as a paralegal.
  • Strong grasp of litigation processes, legal terminology, and court procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and attorneys.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines efficiently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research databases (e.g., Lexis Nexis, Westlaw).
  • Experience with FileVine case management is preferred but not mandatory.
