Job Summary

The College of American Pathologists is seeking a highly skilled Manager, AI and Data Standards Initiatives to lead the development and implementation of key AI and data standards initiatives. This multifaceted role will interface with various stakeholders across the enterprise, members, and industry to ensure that AI and data standard initiatives are aligned with the College's strategy and business goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement AI and data standards strategies, processes, and policies in partnership with members and staff.
  • Facilitate and participate in project and policy decisions by the AI focused committees and working groups to ensure projects and programs are aligned with the College's strategy and business needs.
  • Active participation as an official CAP liaison to one or more standards development organizations (SDOs) or external organizations involved in health AI, including summarizing SDO activities and updates to the relevant committees, councils, and staff leadership.
  • Work with member domain experts in the implementation of a strategic agenda for standards specifications related to AI and adoption by relevant SDOs such as IHE (Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise), HL7, and DICOM.
  • Collaborate with Advocacy staff on AI-related government issues and regulations.
  • Coordinate the development of AI and data standards related guidance documents and publications.
  • Develop partnerships with internal stakeholders to advance the AI strategy.
  • Work closely with the Manager, Clinical Informatics Initiatives to identify and complement opportunities that intersect informatics, digital pathology, and artificial intelligence activities in the CAP and committees' projects.
Requirements
  • An understanding or practical knowledge of AI concepts or data standards is required.
  • Practical knowledge or experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) or Whole Slide Imaging (WSI) systems a plus.
  • Familiarity with DICOM or HL7 required.
  • Able to summarize complex issues in clear concise terms for consumption by non-technical professionals.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Able to network, create and sustain relationships with members, staff, industry vendors, government agencies, other professional organizations.
  • Enjoys working both independently and in a team setting.
  • Enjoys learning with a curiosity and a desire to understand complex systems.
  • Strong leadership and organizational capabilities to work with members to align strategically on business and policy issues.
  • Willing to understand technical components of standards development organizations and government standards work.
  • Capacity to make appropriate business decisions in an evolving environment as well as demonstrate flexibility and tolerance for ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Exhibit creative, innovative, conceptual thinking with accountability to deliverable milestones.
  • Ability to work under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Interest in becoming a content expert in pathology AI tools.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Data science, Laboratory, Computer Science, Bio-informatics, Clinical Informatics, Public Health
  • Advanced degree in relevant engineering or science disciplines a plus
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a high technical environment or clinical laboratory as a systems super user with a willingness to learn AI concepts and/or have experience with healthcare AI concepts and data standards.
  • Knowledge of at least one standards development organizations' work (e.g., HL7, IHE, DICOM) is required.
Additional Criteria
  • Minimal travel (approximately 15%) during the week and weekends.
  • This role is based out of the Northfield, IL headquarters and must reside within a reasonable commute to the office.
