Position Overview

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is in search of a dynamic and motivated intern to assist in our Development, Marketing, and Communications department. This internship is designed to provide valuable experience in the nonprofit sector, focusing on fundraising, marketing strategies, and effective communication.

The Chesapeake Bay Trust is dedicated to enhancing the natural resources and communities within the Chesapeake Bay area. Established in 1985, we are a nonprofit organization that awards numerous grants annually to support environmental education, restoration projects, and community engagement initiatives. Our commitment to growth has led to a significant increase in grant-making, amounting to approximately $20-30 million each year.

Key Responsibilities
As a Development, Marketing, and Communications Intern, you will engage in a variety of tasks that will help you develop essential skills in the nonprofit field. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Content Development: Assist in creating and editing digital content such as newsletters, social media posts, and website materials to promote our initiatives and engage with our audience.
  • Visual Media: Capture and organize images and videos from events and projects to enhance our communication efforts.
  • Marketing Assistance: Support the preparation of marketing materials, both digital and print, to promote our programs and events.
  • Donor Engagement: Help with donor correspondence, including managing data entry and responding to inquiries.
  • Media Relations: Aid in outreach efforts to media outlets and assist in organizing press events.
  • Community Representation: Represent the Chesapeake Bay Trust at various community events and networking opportunities.
  • Event Support: Assist in planning and executing special events that promote our mission.
  • Legislative Communication: Help facilitate communication with legislators regarding our initiatives and grantees.

Qualifications
To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:

  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with design software such as Adobe Creative Suite or Canva.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
  • A willingness to travel and attend events as needed.

Preferred Skills
Ideal candidates may also have experience in event management, donor relations, or digital content creation. A background in environmental science, marketing, communications, or a related field is preferred.

Compensation: $15.00 per hour, 10 hours per week
