We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior Water Resource Engineer to join our team at CDM Smith. As a Junior Water Resource Engineer, you will play a key role in performing complex calculations, modeling, and data analysis for water resources projects with a focus on riverine and coastal floodplain analyses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine technical tasks to provide experience and familiarization with CDM Smith's engineering methods, practices, standards, and company programs.
  • Use prescribed methods to perform specific and limited portions of broader assignments.
  • Work under close supervision, receiving specific and detailed instructions as to required tasks and expected results.
  • Review LOMR case requests for both riverine and coastal sources to determine if they meet all FEMA criteria justifying a change to published flood hazard data.
  • Review hydrologic and hydraulic models for technical accuracy.
  • Verify compliance with FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) standards and FEMA Guidelines and Specifications.
  • Prepare all appropriate FEMA documentation and correspondence.
  • Utilize verbal and written communication skills to interact directly with the client (FEMA) and LOMR requesters.
  • Resolve floodplain mapping issues related to LOMRs.
  • Oversight and guidance of third-party LOMR preparations.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Civil, Coastal, or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 0 years of experience.
  • Domestic and/or international travel may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • US citizenship.
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Knowledge of basic hydrologic and hydraulic concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
