Salary Range: $27-$37 per hour
The Town of Essex, Vermont is in search of a Community Affairs Liaison to operate under the guidance of the Chief of Police or designated representative. This role is a civilian support position that embodies the Police Department's mission through a spectrum of duties, ranging from routine to intricate tasks focused on public engagement, education, and information dissemination.
The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in crafting, developing, coordinating, and executing community outreach initiatives aimed at fostering and enhancing relationships between law enforcement and the community. As the primary public information resource for the department, the liaison will undertake various related responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate community outreach programs to strengthen police-community relations.
- Serve as the main point of contact for public inquiries and information sharing.
- Attend and support the Police Advisory Committee during their monthly meetings.
The regular work schedule typically spans from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, although flexibility is required based on departmental needs. Attendance at meetings and events outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, is expected.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in fields such as Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Criminal Justice, or Public Administration. A minimum of 1-2 years of progressively responsible experience in public communication is preferred. Experience in public relations or marketing within a municipal police or sheriff's department is highly advantageous. Alternatively, five years of relevant experience may substitute for formal educational qualifications.
