POSITION SUMMARY
The Chief Officer of Psychiatric Services will be responsible for overseeing all behavioral health contracted services by providing clinical leadership to the providers, facilitating the recruitment of psychiatric staff, and advising on policy matters related to forensic psychiatry.

This role entails leading and monitoring psychiatric services within correctional facilities, including conducting psychiatric intakes, assessments, evaluations, treatment, medication management, and the overall disposition of inmates.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1.

Direct a comprehensive statewide behavioral health program, ensuring high-level oversight of care delivered across all facilities.

2.

Plan, coordinate, and evaluate the work of both professional and paraprofessional behavioral health staff.

3.

Collaborate with psychiatrists and treatment personnel to assess care and treatment programs.

4.

Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards of care to align with accreditation and certification requirements.

5.

Oversee the creation and evaluation of educational programs for staff at all levels, including coordinating student training initiatives.

6.

Mentor new psychiatrists, ensuring they receive the necessary orientation and support for success in their roles.

7.

Monitor the appropriate use of psychotropic medications.

8.

Prepare budget recommendations and review supply requisitions from behavioral health staff.

9.

Participate in statewide policy and decision-making committees to address administrative challenges.

10.

Provide leadership and direction to behavioral health staff within assigned facilities.

11.

Establish a system for 24-hour behavioral health consultation services for institutional staff during crises.

12.

Develop and monitor state goals and objectives in alignment with overall organizational aims.

13.

Conduct site visits for supervision, record reviews, and data collection to assess program effectiveness.

14.

Facilitate staff training and development programs, interpreting complex policies as needed.

15.

Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, monitoring site-level activities related to behavioral health care delivery.
