Culinary Support Specialist

OVERVIEW
The Culinary Support Specialist at South Middlesex Opportu is essential in assisting the meal service program while ensuring compliance with all relevant policies and regulations. Under the guidance of the Head Chef or Kitchen Supervisor, the role involves maintaining high food quality standards, overseeing inventory management, adhering to food safety protocols, and fulfilling customer service expectations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates a cost-efficient operation through effective planning and use of food resources and kitchen equipment.
- Takes responsibility for food preparation and service in the absence of the Kitchen Supervisor or Head Cook, adhering to established guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with sanitation and safety standards while acting as a Food Services Assistant.
- Keeps the Dining Area tidy and welcoming for Guests, Volunteers, and Staff.
- Works collaboratively with community partners to promote a positive workplace and outstanding customer service.
- Assists in recording in-kind donations as required by grant stipulations.
- Collaborates closely with volunteers, stipend workers, and team members to foster a supportive work environment.
- Reports any security and safety issues to the relevant Manager.
- Engages with clients to effectively address their needs while maintaining confidentiality as necessary.
- Participates in team discussions, communicates effectively with clients and colleagues, and ensures adherence to all applicable regulations.
- Complies with confidentiality protocols regarding client, employee, and organizational information.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- High School diploma or GED, or equivalent experience in a kitchen setting.
- Preferred certification in ServSafe Training or similar food safety knowledge.
- Commitment to the mission and target demographic of South Middlesex Opportu.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- Reports directly to the Kitchen Supervisor.
- This position does not have any direct reports.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to remain standing for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Culinary Support Specialist at South Middlesex Opportu may interact with clients from various programs funded by relevant health and human services and will undergo a background check.
