GENERAL PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Guides and mentors the drive-in team members, carhops, and skating carhops to deliver exceptional food service in a clean, safe, and efficient manner, ensuring that customers enjoy their experience at Sonic Drive-In.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Executes all responsibilities in the Basic Stations (Fountain & Frozen, Dresser, Front Swamp, Back Swamp, Grill, Switchboard, Expeditor, Food Prep, Carhop, Skating Carhop, and if applicable, Drive-Thru) as necessary based on store traffic, to guarantee that the preparation (portion control), temperature, packaging, appearance, presentation, taste, and service of all menu items align with operational standards.
  • Educates, supervises, and coaches team members, carhops, and skating carhops in executing all Basic Station functions.
  • Manages the switchboard and accurately records customer orders, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Handles Drive-Thru operations and sales register, providing quick and precise change.
  • Prepares beverages and ice cream treats.
  • Prepares food by cutting, chopping, and cooking items on the grill or in fryers.
  • Efficiently fulfills food orders within a 2-3 minute timeframe.
  • Packs all menu items into bags or trays and organizes drink orders into carriers.
  • Serves food to customers promptly in the Drive-Thru and as needed in other Basic Stations.
  • Moves food products weighing up to 50 lbs into freezers and shelves stacked from floor to ceiling.
  • Regularly disposes of waste by transporting bags outside to dumpsters.
  • Cleans all areas of the drive-in, including mopping, sweeping, washing dishes, wiping countertops, and emptying used grease.
  • Conducts frequent washing and sanitizing of food areas, preparation tools, and hands.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Instructs team members on the significance of prioritizing guests' needs.
  • Responds promptly to guest requests in a courteous manner. Reports guest complaints to a supervisor and assists in addressing such issues.
  • Immediately reports all guest or employee incidents to a member of the management team.
  • Observes the drive-in work environment for potential employee concerns and communicates issues to management.
  • Adheres to the required uniform and appropriate personal protective equipment as outlined in the Sonic Drive-In operations manual.
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned or necessary.

ENVIRONMENT:

Regular exposure to heat and hot liquids while cooking. Frequent exposure to cold environments when stocking food items. Occasional exposure to extreme temperatures due to varying weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic math and reading abilities.
  • Capability to follow instructions.
  • Availability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Compliance with all Sonic Drive-In Policies and Procedures, as well as health and sanitation regulations.
  • Successful completion of all STAR certification and other Sonic Drive-In training programs.
  • Continuous standing, bending, stooping, lifting, stretching, and frequent overhead lifting will be required when staging, preparing, or packaging menu items and/or cleaning.
  • General knowledge and understanding of the restaurant industry or retail operations is required; experience in quick-service restaurants is preferred but not mandatory.
