Position Summary

The Medical Biller is responsible for the accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance details, as well as managing office and surgical charges, payments, and adjustments. This role requires close collaboration with insurance coordinators to gain a comprehensive understanding of various insurance plans and the organization's participation with different carriers. Additionally, the Medical Biller will handle cashiering responsibilities, including settling patient accounts, issuing receipts, preparing bank deposits, and ensuring a balanced cash drawer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, modifiers, and associated charges, ensuring precise data entry into the system.
  • Accurately post daily visit charges and receipts to the appropriate patient accounts in a timely manner, reconciling all batches for posting.
  • Update and maintain patient demographic information, collecting necessary billing and insurance details from patients and colleagues as required.
  • Review visit tickets, claim forms, and explanations of benefits for discrepancies, promptly communicating any issues identified.
  • Report concerns, risk management matters, and protocol breakdowns to the supervisor, adhering to the established chain of command.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including personal areas and record storage.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is mandatory.
  • At least one year of experience in a data entry role, preferably within a medical setting; education may substitute for experience.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated speed and accuracy in data entry and 10-key operations.
  • Core competencies include attention to detail, organizational skills, effective communication, teamwork, and confidentiality.
Physical Requirements

This position is primarily sedentary, requiring the ability to navigate an office environment and operate standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and telephones. The role involves frequent communication with patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues through various means, including phone and email. Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 20 pounds may be necessary, performed safely and appropriately.
