Varstaff is seeking a:

Fluid Systems Engineer II

Position Overview

This position is integral to the Lunar Permanence division, which is responsible for the development of Blue Origin's various Blue Moon lander product lines. Our mission is to enable millions of individuals to live and work in space by creating sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a member of a dedicated team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will engage in the creation of models and conduct analyses of an integrated fuel cell, balance of plant, and individual components. These models will facilitate accelerated development activities, enable detailed analyses, verify requirements, and explore trade spaces.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Lunar Permanence Fuel Cell team by performing thermal and fluid analyses on both components and integrated systems.
  • Develop and validate thermal and/or fluid models for fuel cell stacks and balance of plant using tools such as Thermal Desktop, FloCAD, and MATLAB Simulink.
  • Assist in the creation of low and high-fidelity models for stacks, components, pipes, and manifolds.
  • Effectively communicate analysis findings to stakeholders to guide design decisions and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with design engineers to guarantee model precision and suggest design enhancements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • 2-5+ years of relevant experience in thermal or fluids analysis within Aerospace, Automotive, or a comparable industry.
  • Strong foundational knowledge in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and physics-based mathematical modeling.
  • Ability to interpret and utilize Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for calculations involving compressible, incompressible, and two-phase systems.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic and often unpredictable environment while demonstrating personal leadership, technical expertise, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and foster a culture of inclusivity.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or legally admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry, Chemistry, Physics, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with tools such as Thermal Desktop, FloCAD, MATLAB, Python scripting, Simulink, Amesim, and GT Suite.
  • Demonstrated ability to anchor first-principles models to higher-fidelity simulations and experimental data.
  • Experience in modeling both steady-state and transient systems, particularly thermal and fluid systems.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace standard processes, methods, and procedures.
  • Experience in supporting testing and correlating models with experimental data.
  • Experience in creating P&IDs for fluid systems involving compressible, incompressible, and two-phase systems.
  • Knowledge of thermal and fluid system components such as valves, regulators, heat exchangers, and pumps for propellants, coolants, and other fluids.
  • Understanding of aerospace system design requirements, including thermal, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, acoustics, and electrical grounding/bonding.
