JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of a licensed educator, support special education students aged 18-21 in the Transition Program classroom. Assist individuals or small groups with fundamental curriculum tasks, implement instructional strategies, reinforce learning skills, and uphold discipline protocols. Provide necessary physical care for students and maintain a clean and hygienic workspace. Schedule and participate in parent meetings as required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties outline the essential functions of the role and represent the type of work performed. This list is not exhaustive and may be adjusted based on organizational needs.
  • Support students with classroom activities, tailoring the curriculum to meet individual needs. Assist in delivering educational content to both individuals and small groups to ensure comprehension of subjects. [Daily, 30%]
  • Implement student accommodations and therapeutic procedures under the guidance of licensed staff. Maintain daily records of student progress and behavior in collaboration with licensed personnel, which may include special reports and providing feedback to the Individualized Education Program team. [Daily, 30%]
  • Provide essential physical care for students with special needs, which may include assistance with toileting, grooming, feeding, and other personal care tasks. Follow training and directives from a registered school nurse regarding medication administration. [Daily, 20%]
  • Safely transport students using a District vehicle. [Daily, 15%]
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned or requested. [Daily, 5%]

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The minimum levels of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities required for consideration for this position.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • No prior experience necessary.
  • Basic understanding of standard office equipment such as telephones, copiers, and email.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Intermediate oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational abilities.
  • Capability to implement behavior modification techniques.
  • Ability to manage challenging and stressful situations.
  • Commitment to confidentiality in all job aspects.
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students.
  • Ability to meet insurability requirements of the relevant insurance pool.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

The essential certifications and licenses required for consideration for this position.


  • Criminal background check and fingerprinting required for hire.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of the District Transportation Small Vehicle Operator Test upon hire.
  • Medication administration training provided by the District as necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Any additional job-related education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, certifications, licenses, and other criteria that are beneficial but not essential.


  • Associate's degree.
  • Experience working with individuals with special needs and licensed special education teaching experience.
  • CPR and First Aid certifications.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:
The physical exertion, cognitive abilities, and work environments necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.

  • Moderate physical effort (lifting up to 25 pounds).
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and climbing.
  • Eye/hand coordination (e.g., typing, ten key).

  • Prolonged standing and walking.

  • Must operate a vehicle, including transporting student(s).
  • Normal school district environment that may include potential volatile situations.
  • Outdoor work may be required when supervising student activities.
