The Medical Surgical unit, commonly referred to as Med-Surg, serves as a critical component of nursing care.


This unit at Mercy South specializes in the management of acute medical surgical patients presenting with a diverse array of diagnoses and care requirements.

Functionally, it accommodates and provides care for patients who are either preparing for or recuperating from medical and surgical procedures.


Typical cases include the management of conditions such as pneumonia and sepsis, along with pre-operative and post-operative care that encompasses pain management, wound care, and monitoring for potential complications following procedures.

The Med-Surg unit also addresses chronic health issues like diabetes, COPD, and chronic kidney disease.


Service lines include but are not limited to oncology, nephrology, urology, and gastroenterology.


Given the broad spectrum of patient conditions, the acuity levels within the Med-Surg unit can vary significantly.

Proposed Schedule: 12-Hour Shifts: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)

Qualifications:

Required Education:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN)

License:
Responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure, meeting all state board of nursing requirements.

Certifications:
Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
