Position Overview

The Department of Teaching, Learning and Professional Development is inviting applications for a tenure-track faculty role at the Assistant or Associate Professor level specializing in Elementary Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of Elementary Education programs within undergraduate studies.
  • Support accreditation processes and prepare necessary documentation.
  • Deliver instruction in various formats, including face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes, potentially during evenings or weekends.
  • Advise students and collaborate with local educational institutions.
  • Participate in departmental and university committees.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Fulfill service commitments to the department, college, and university.
  • Guide graduate student research and serve on dissertation committees.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned relevant to the position.

Employment Conditions
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check and verification of credentials. Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligibility for employment in the U.S. is required prior to hiring. Compliance with COVID-19 vaccination requirements is mandatory for all eligible faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
  • A minimum of five years of teaching experience in a K-12 elementary environment.
  • State licensure in Maryland or another state in relevant educational areas.
  • A strong record of teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Experience or interest in organizing educational initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to lead collaborative efforts to enhance education for 21st-century teaching.

Education:
PhD or EdD in a relevant educational field.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Doctorate in Education with documented experience in curriculum development and instructional delivery.
  • At least five years of successful teaching experience as a certified elementary educator, with additional experience in K-12 leadership preferred.
  • Proven college teaching experience in both traditional and online formats.
  • Familiarity with diverse educational settings and urban education.
  • Understanding of educational policies, procedures, and laws.
  • Proficiency in computer technology and culturally responsive teaching methods.
  • Engagement with current literature and research in education and assessment practices.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and activities.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated capability to work with diverse student populations and address diversity challenges in educational settings.
