PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Production Planner plays a crucial role in orchestrating production schedules by leveraging all available scheduling tools and resources to maximize the efficiency of various plant assets.

This position involves coordinating the release of production orders based on resource availability and inventory levels, ensuring that both short-term and long-term production plans are optimized to deliver exceptional service to our clients.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Develop and manage shop orders in alignment with customer demand and internal capacity.
  • Initiate order releases based on material and production availability alongside customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Production/Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, Program Management, and Engineering teams to align production strategies and ensure effective execution.
  • Address and resolve issues that may hinder the achievement of customer delivery timelines.
  • Ensure comprehensive planning of shop orders and timely release to the production floor, focusing on shop floor planning and execution.
  • Assist the Master Scheduler in sizing and scheduling new production orders.
  • Review and analyze scheduling and rescheduling requests for existing orders as directed by the Master Scheduler. Evaluate the bill of materials and production needs to assess the feasibility of meeting requested delivery dates. Communicate necessary changes to customer orders to relevant teams and coordinate inputs for rescheduling purchase orders to establish new start dates for shop orders.
  • Maintain accurate capacity resources in shop floor control to enhance demand planning and scheduling accuracy. Collaborate closely with Human Resources and the Master Scheduler to ensure that systems reflect actual equipment capacity on a weekly basis.
  • Update and manage the Finite Capacity Scheduling System to effectively organize shop floor activities.
  • Work alongside Master Scheduling and other departments to ensure synchronization of shop order start and due dates, promoting optimal planning and execution.
  • Engage with Production Supervisors and support the Production Manager in priority, capacity, and resource management.
  • Oversee the shop floor tracking system for shop order and kit management, working with Supply Chain to ensure a consistent and timely flow of kits to the production floor.
  • Utilize a proactive approach to monitor key Performance Indicators as defined by Manufacturing Management. Track daily performance metrics and provide feedback to foster continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Accounting, Operations, or a related field, along with relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a production setting involving material planning, production planning, and/or master scheduling, with proficiency in MRP-based systems.
  • Project management skills and experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other business-related software.
  • Familiarity with MRP-based systems.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Certification as a Production and Inventory Manager from APICS.
  • Experience in a mechanical production environment.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing practices is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position involves working in both office and shop environments.
  • In the shop, exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, machinery, and material handling vehicles is expected. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in this area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good hearing and vision are essential for performing job duties.
  • The ability to walk the shop floor and lift up to 20 pounds is required.
