PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Production Planner plays a crucial role in orchestrating production schedules by leveraging various scheduling tools and resources to maximize the efficiency of multiple plant assets. This position is tasked with managing the release of orders based on resource availability and inventory levels, ensuring the optimization of both short-term and long-term production strategies that deliver exceptional service to our clientele.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Plan shop orders in alignment with customer demand and internal production capabilities.
  2. Release orders contingent upon material availability, production readiness, and customer specifications.
  3. Collaborate with Production/Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, Program Management, and Engineering teams to synchronize build strategies and ensure effective execution.
  4. Address and resolve issues that may hinder the fulfillment of customer delivery timelines.
  5. Ensure comprehensive planning of shop orders and timely release to the production floor.
  6. Assist the Master Scheduler in sizing and scheduling new orders as required.
  7. Review scheduling and rescheduling requests for existing orders as directed by the Master Scheduler. Analyze the bill of materials and production needs to assess the feasibility of meeting requested delivery dates. Communicate any changes in customer orders to relevant teams and coordinate inputs for rescheduling purchase orders to establish new start dates for shop orders.
  8. Maintain capacity resources in shop floor control to enhance accurate demand forecasting and scheduling. Collaborate closely with Human Resources and the Master Scheduler to ensure that systems reflect actual equipment capacity on a weekly basis.
  9. Update and manage the Finite Capacity Scheduling System to effectively coordinate shop floor activities.
  10. Work alongside Master Scheduling and other departments to ensure synchronization of shop order start and due dates, facilitating optimal planning and execution.
  11. Support Production Supervisors and assist the Production Manager with priority, capacity, and resource management.
  12. Maintain a shop floor tracking system for shop order and kit management, collaborating with Supply Chain to ensure a consistent and timely flow of kits to the production floor.
  13. Employ a proactive approach to monitor key Performance Indicators as established by Manufacturing Management. Track daily performance metrics and provide feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Associate's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Accounting, Operations, or a related field, along with relevant work experience.

Experience in a production setting involving material planning, production scheduling, and analysis utilizing MRP-based systems.

Project management skills and proficiency in root cause analysis and corrective actions.

Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant business applications.

Experience with MRP systems, including data entry, data interpretation, and a fundamental understanding of operations and interdependencies.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

Certification as a Production and Inventory Manager from APICS.

Experience in a mechanical production environment.

Familiarity with Six Sigma and lean methodologies is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves working in both office and shop environments. In the shop, exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical components, machinery, and material handling equipment is expected. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in this area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this role, the employee must possess good hearing and vision. The ability to navigate the shop floor and lift up to 20 pounds is required.
