PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Production Planner plays a crucial role in orchestrating production schedules by leveraging all available scheduling tools and resources to maximize the efficiency of various plant resources.

This position involves coordinating the release of production orders based on resource availability and inventory levels, aiming to enhance both short-term and long-term production strategies while ensuring exceptional service delivery to our clients.


DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Organize shop orders in alignment with customer demand and internal production capacity.
  • Initiate order releases contingent on material availability, production capabilities, and customer specifications.
  • Collaborate with Production/Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, Program Management, and Engineering teams to synchronize build strategies and ensure effective execution.
  • Address and resolve issues that may hinder the achievement of customer-required delivery timelines.
  • Ensure comprehensive planning of shop orders and timely release to the production floor, overseeing shop floor planning and execution.
  • Assist the Master Scheduler in sizing and scheduling new orders as required.
  • Review scheduling and rescheduling requests for existing orders as directed by the Master Scheduler. Analyze production requirements and bill of materials to assess the feasibility of meeting requested delivery dates. Communicate any changes in customer orders to relevant teams and coordinate inputs for rescheduling purchase orders to establish new start dates for shop orders.
  • Maintain capacity resources in shop floor control to facilitate accurate demand planning and scheduling. Collaborate closely with Human Resources and the Master Scheduler to ensure systems reflect actual manned equipment capacity on a weekly basis.
  • Update and manage the Finite Capacity Scheduling System to effectively plan shop floor activities.
  • Work alongside Master Scheduling and other departments to ensure synchronization of shop order start and due dates, promoting optimal planning and execution.
  • Support Production Supervisors and assist the Production Manager with priority, capacity, and resource management.
  • Maintain a shop floor tracking system for shop order and kit management, working with Supply Chain to guarantee a consistent and timely flow of kits to the production floor.
  • Employ a proactive approach to monitor key Performance Indicators as defined by Manufacturing Management. Track daily performance metrics and provide feedback to foster improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Accounting, Operations, or a related field, accompanied by relevant work experience.
  • Experience in a production setting involving material planning, production scheduling, and analysis utilizing MRP-based systems.
  • Skills in project management and root cause/corrective action methodologies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant business tools.
  • Familiarity with MRP-based systems.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Certification as a Production and Inventory Manager from APICS.
  • Experience in a mechanical production environment.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing practices is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position involves working in both office and shop environments.
  • In the shop, exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, machinery, and material handling vehicles is expected. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in this area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Good hearing and vision are essential for performing job duties.
  • The ability to navigate the shop floor and lift items weighing up to 20 pounds is required.
