JOB TITLE: Production Planner

DEPARTMENT: Supply Chain

REPORTING TO: Master Scheduler

PRIMARY FUNCTION OF POSITION:

The Production Planner plays a crucial role in orchestrating production schedules by leveraging various scheduling tools and resources to maximize the efficiency of multiple plant operations. This position is responsible for coordinating the release of orders based on resource availability and inventory levels, aiming to optimize both short-term and long-term production strategies while ensuring exceptional service delivery to our clients.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  1. Plan shop orders in alignment with customer demand and internal production capabilities.
  2. Release orders contingent upon material availability, production capacity, and customer specifications.
  3. Collaborate with Production/Manufacturing, Planning, Purchasing, Program Management, and Engineering teams to align production strategies and ensure effective execution.
  4. Address and resolve issues that may hinder the achievement of customer delivery timelines.
  5. Ensure comprehensive planning of shop orders and timely release to the production floor.
  6. Assist the Master Scheduler in sizing and scheduling new orders as required.
  7. Review and analyze scheduling and rescheduling requests for existing orders, assessing the bill of materials and production needs to determine the feasibility of meeting requested delivery dates. Communicate any changes to customer orders to relevant teams and coordinate inputs for rescheduling purchase orders.
  8. Maintain accurate capacity resources in the shop floor control system to enhance demand planning and scheduling accuracy. Collaborate closely with Human Resources and the Master Scheduler to keep systems updated on a weekly basis, reflecting actual equipment capacity.
  9. Update and manage the Finite Capacity Scheduling System to effectively plan shop floor activities.
  10. Work alongside Master Scheduling and other departments to ensure synchronization of shop order start and due dates for optimal planning and execution.
  11. Support Production Supervisors and assist the Production Manager with priority setting, capacity management, and resource allocation.
  12. Maintain the shop floor tracking system for shop order and kit management, collaborating with Supply Chain to ensure a consistent and timely flow of kits to the production area.
  13. Adopt a proactive approach to monitor key Performance Indicators established by Manufacturing Management, tracking daily performance and providing feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  14. Perform additional duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

An Associate's Degree in Supply Chain, Business Management, Accounting, Operations, or a related field, along with relevant work experience.

Experience in a production setting involving material planning, production scheduling, and analysis using MRP-based systems.

Skills in project management and root cause analysis/corrective actions.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other business-related tools.

Familiarity with MRP systems, including data entry, data interpretation, and an understanding of basic operations and interdependencies.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

Certification as a Production and Inventory Manager from APICS.

Experience in a mechanical production environment.

Knowledge of Six Sigma and lean methodologies is advantageous.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position involves working in both office and shop environments. In the shop, exposure to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, machinery, and material handling vehicles is expected. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in this area.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Employees must possess good hearing and vision capabilities. The role requires the ability to navigate the shop floor and lift items weighing up to 20 pounds.
