Position Overview

The Senior Manager of Market, Customer, and Competitive Intelligence is tasked with delivering essential market, customer, and competitive insights that will guide both immediate and future strategic choices. This role involves spearheading the development of a customer planning framework that utilizes the combined outputs from the Market, Customer & Competitive Intelligence team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional communication and analytical abilities, along with the capacity to collaborate with and influence operational teams throughout the organization to execute initiatives. Additionally, the individual must work alongside other members of the Enterprise Analytics team to create processes and tools that will foster insights to promote a Customer 1st approach at all organizational levels.

This position necessitates close collaboration with leadership, functional teams (such as merchandising, revenue management, and human resources), operational sites, specialty companies, or geographical units, as well as technology teams, depending on the specific use case.

Key Responsibilities:

Market Intelligence
  • Lead the development of innovative segmentation strategies (market maps) that drive strategic actions across the enterprise.
  • Facilitate the implementation of new market sizing and segmentation methodologies.
  • Oversee all components of Market Intelligence dashboards, from design to training for key stakeholders.
  • Champion the adoption and integration of the market map approach into the company's operational rhythm, ensuring that the tool and strategic thinking become embedded within the organization.
  • Provide strategic recommendations regarding Sysco's growth opportunities within each market segment.
Customer Intelligence
  • Direct the creation of customer planning tools and insights (in collaboration with Voice of Customer research) to inform customer prioritization and strategy.
  • Utilize customer insights and analysis of third-party data to identify which customers Sysco should target over the next 3-5 years.
  • Develop a strategic customer segmentation framework that can initially be applied to national accounts and subsequently across operating companies for priority segments (e.g., restaurants, national grocery, etc.).
  • Lead the organization-wide adoption of the customer segmentation framework.
  • Drive customer data and taxonomy initiatives in conjunction with market maps.
Competitive Intelligence
  • Facilitate the creation of an integrated competitive intelligence tool, along with training and processes.
  • Establish a continuous feedback and listening mechanism to scale and share market knowledge (in collaboration with the research director).
  • Generate sustainable insights regarding competitive financial performance.
  • Conduct regular reporting and analysis against publicly traded competitors.
  • Utilize outside-in models to comprehend how competitors generate revenue.
  • Develop a deep and ongoing understanding of competitors' value propositions to inform future Sysco offerings.

  • Technical proficiency in SQL and Tableau is a plus.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical field (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics, Business, Economics, Market Research).
  • MBA or other advanced degree from a top-tier educational institution (preferred).
Experience:
  • 5+ years in a corporate environment or leading professional services firm in an analytical or strategic role such as Strategy, Finance, or Insights.
