Job Overview:


As a Revenue Investigator, you will operate under limited supervision to perform thorough investigations related to law enforcement and background checks. Your primary responsibility will be to ascertain whether any criminal infractions of the laws governed by the Nebraska Department of Revenue have transpired.


This role involves enforcing regulations associated with the Nebraska Lottery, Charitable Gaming (including Keno, Raffles, and Pickle Cards), Skill Devices, Income Tax, Sales Tax, and various other tax initiatives. You will also engage in related tasks as assigned.


This position is classified as armed law enforcement, and the selected candidate will be designated as a Special Deputy State Sheriff.


While the primary office is located in Lincoln, exceptional candidates may be considered for roles based in Omaha, provided they can fulfill regular office duties in Lincoln as needed.


Compensation and Benefits:


The hourly wage is $36.88, commensurate with experience and within agency fiscal guidelines, subject to approval. All necessary duty equipment will be supplied, including a take-home vehicle and mobile phone.


Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:
Completion of coursework or training in criminal justice, law enforcement, police science, criminology, or a related discipline, along with experience in conducting criminal investigations.

Additional Requirements: Active law enforcement certification is mandatory, or the ability to renew certification through NLETC reactivation training. Candidates must submit a TC Authority to Release Information for each current and prior law enforcement employer.

Knowledge and Skills:


Understanding of:
- Rules of evidence, laws of arrest, search and seizure, and basic court procedures.
- Criminal investigation methodologies and procedures.
- Principles of evidence identification, preservation, and presentation.
- Accounting and bookkeeping fundamentals.
- Automated record systems.
- Various criminal activities including fraud, embezzlement, extortion, bribery, larceny, tax evasion, conspiracy to defraud, gambling, or racketeering.


Proficiencies in:
- Persuasive communication and investigative interviewing.
- Analyzing, preparing, and presenting evidence in accordance with criminal proof standards.
- Planning and organizing tasks effectively.
- Maintaining productive relationships with government officials, law enforcement, gaming, and lottery industry personnel, as well as the public.
- Crafting clear and concise written reports.
- Applying due process steps.


Abilities:
- Conduct extensive investigations that may lead to criminal prosecution.
- Analyze, prepare, and present evidence effectively in both written and oral formats.
- Review evidentiary leads and select appropriate investigative paths.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with various stakeholders.
- Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Analyze documents for compliance with laws and regulations.
