POSITION SUMMARY
Accountable for the safe and compliant functioning of the facility to maximize production output and quality. This role involves direct oversight of process operators working on a continuous rotating shift schedule, while aligning with the organization's policies, objectives, and goals.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage in setting objectives, developing plans, and reviewing plant performance metrics.
- Oversee operators on a continuous rotating shift schedule.
- Ensure operators receive adequate training, resources, and motivation to achieve manufacturing goals safely and efficiently.
- Maintain regular communication with operators, both individually and collectively, to ensure seamless operations across shifts.
- Conduct performance evaluations for operators based on established job descriptions to assess competency and contributions.
- Update and maintain operational procedures and training manuals for process operations, ensuring all operators are familiar with the latest protocols.
- Provide clear expectations and guidelines to shift supervisors regarding production targets.
- Monitor plant operations to track production and quality, proactively addressing issues and identifying areas for enhancement.
- Initiate and implement projects aimed at improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.
- Keep accurate records of key production metrics, including volume, yield, uptime, and resource consumption.
- Prepare written reports on production performance.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant city, county, state, and federal regulations regarding process operations.
- Lead and enforce the safety program for all operational processes, reviewing safety records to maintain high safety standards.
- Coordinate with the maintenance department to manage repair and maintenance tasks in operational areas.
- Collaborate with the QA/QC laboratory to ensure effective implementation of quality assurance policies and procedures by operators.
- Implement cleanliness programs and procedures throughout the plant.
- Monitor the usage and inventory of process chemicals and supplies, initiating reorders as necessary.
- Assist in the recruitment, training, and management of plant personnel; including planning, assigning, and directing work, as well as performance appraisal and conflict resolution.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in operating a dry-mill ethanol facility is preferred. Previous management or supervisory experience is required. Strong understanding of ethanol production processes and technologies is essential. Familiarity with general office equipment is necessary.
ABILITIES:
Ability to effectively utilize the plant's Distributed Control System (DCS) and train others on its operation. Punctuality and adherence to performance standards, including attendance and deadlines. Capacity to maintain professional relationships with employees at all organizational levels. Clear and concise communication of information and challenges in a professional manner. Adaptability to changes in business operations with minimal notice, ensuring consistent performance.
This position involves significant time spent in the plant environment, utilizing various chemical industry equipment, including fermentation vessels, agitators, mixing and milling equipment, distillation columns, centrifuges, and control systems. Exposure to loud noises, humid conditions, fumes, and potentially hazardous materials is possible. Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights of up to 175 feet. Clear communication abilities are necessary, along with visual acuity for accuracy. Travel may be required for training and meetings.
PHYSICAL STRENGTH:
This role may involve lifting up to 50 pounds frequently.
