Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Assistant Senior to join our team at UPMC - Pittsburgh Medical Center. As a key member of our clinical support team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our medical staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, height, and weight, and record them accurately in patient charts.
  • Organize patient flow and schedules to ensure efficient and timely care.
  • Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings as per provider guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and medical staff to ensure seamless care.
  • Manage patient medical records, including sending and receiving records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Clean and maintain exam and procedure rooms to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Restock exam and procedure rooms with necessary supplies.
  • Comply with regulatory agencies, including OSHA, CLIA, and PA Department of Health.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient records and other sensitive information.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs as required.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and document patient information in medical records.
  • Answer phone calls and provide patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Verify patient insurance coverage and demographics.
  • Prepare and manage charts to ensure accurate and complete information.
  • Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT) or successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA) or at least 1 year of prior patient care experience.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category-specific tasks.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • CPR certification based on AHA standards.
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
