About the Role

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Solar Engineer to join our Renewables and Microgrid Team in the Energy Practice Engineering Center of Excellence. As a Solar Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing solar PV electrical engineering systems for commercial and utility-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the solar PV electrical engineering design work on assigned projects
  • Working with Project Engineers and Project Managers on developing design schedules and budgets for electrical engineering work activities
  • Supporting company business development activities as it relates to renewable energy projects
  • Monitoring project progress to ensure quality, on-time and on-budget delivery of projects
  • Solar PV system design including array layouts, DC string sizing, equipment layouts, and utility interconnections for rooftop, carport, and ground mount (fixed tilt and single-axis tracking) systems
  • Solar PV system energy production modeling
  • Developing solar construction and equipment specifications
  • Engineering calculations (NEC maximum system voltage, conductor sizing, overcurrent protection sizing, utility disconnect requirements, voltage drop, and conduit sizing)
  • Support drawing production - Solar PV system One line and three-line diagrams, Cable and Conduit Schedules
  • Bill of Materials
  • PV system cost estimation and payback evaluations
  • DC and low to medium voltage power distribution design
  • Supporting projects through complete life cycle including the feasibility phase, preliminary and detailed design, issue-for-bid, construction, start-up, and commissioning
  • Participating in and presenting engineering work at client meetings
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project site
Requirements
  • BA/BS (Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering preferred) and 4+ years of relevant experience
  • Experience must include electrical design of commercial and utility-scale solar PV systems
  • EIT license
  • Preferred Qualifications: Minimum eight (8) years of engineering experience, PE license, highly proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, and Microsoft Excel, experience with other software in the industry such as NREL SAM, ForgeSolar, and Helioscope, battery energy storage system and/or other renewables experience, MV AC collection system design experience, proficient with the NEC, as well as related codes such as IBC and NFPA 855, strong familiarity with utility practices, industry codes and standards (NESC, IEEE, PIP etc.), able to lead engineering tasks with strong communication skills (written and verbal), experience on full EPC, Design/Build projects from start to finish
