Mechanical Product Specialist

The Product Development Engineer plays a crucial role in the engineering processes related to both proprietary products of IPEG Industrial Group and widely utilized externally sourced products that necessitate engineering for selection, sizing, and specification. This role includes collaboration with Project Engineering during contract execution, providing engineering calculations, data, and drawings, as well as maintaining technical performance data, ancillary equipment, and standard designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in contract execution by conducting product and ancillary equipment selection, sizing, design, and development of operational data, while supplying necessary documentation such as datasheets, drawings, and other essential materials to support project engineering.
- Provide technical guidance, engineering estimates, and preliminary design calculations to support the Sales team during the proposal phase.
- Conduct standard and custom engineering calculations to ensure equipment performance targets are achieved, designs are safe and reliable, and compliance with customer specifications is maintained.
- Contribute to New Product Development and R&D initiatives by participating in related projects to ensure performance and cost objectives are met for new offerings.
- Evaluate and respond to feedback from the Operations team to enhance equipment designs and ensure efficient assembly processes.
- Identify reasons for any performance deficiencies in IPEG products, devise timely and cost-effective solutions, and implement these solutions to rectify issues.
- Standardize and optimize IPEG's component families.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology, with coursework in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, mechanics, and machine design, accompanied by a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Ability to apply engineering mathematics, including algebra, trigonometry, and calculus.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as sheet metal fabrication, welding, casting, and machining.
- Hands-on experience in the assembly and disassembly of mechanical components.
- Knowledge of electronic control systems, including PLCs.
- Experience in bulk solids handling and/or pneumatic conveying.
- Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD or SolidWorks); experience with Finite Element Analysis is advantageous.
- Skilled in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with a willingness to learn new software as needed.
- Adept at reading and interpreting technical documents, including process flow diagrams, P&IDs, and equipment arrangement, assembly, and manufacturing drawings.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively engage with peers, groups, and customers.
