Lead Claims Examiner

RSUI Group is seeking an experienced Chief Claims Specialist to join our Management Liability/EPL claims team. The successful candidate will provide high-level specialized claim handling expertise for Management Liability/EPL claims.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct thorough investigations of employment practices and management liability claims
- Assertively handle complex claims, litigation, high-exposure cases, and coverage issues
- Provide prompt and accurate coverage positions and liaise with defense counsel to assess liability and exposure and determine litigation defense strategy
- Review, analyze, and report on legal documents and motion practice associated with claims
- Appoint and liaise with coverage counsel to the insurer
- Communicate and report to Unit and Team claims leaders
- Attend or assist with underlying litigation and coverage mediations
- Provide reporting on files to the unit leader, team leader, and senior management with recommendations on reserving, plan of action, and current evaluation as required
- Act independently in evaluating claim exposures with assigned dollar authority
- Attend business-related functions, such as team meetings, mediations, trials, and company events
- Perform various other duties as assigned
- JD strongly preferred, college degree or equivalent experience required
- 7+ years ML/EPL claims handling experience preferred, with a high degree of technical experience
- Attorney experience preferred
- Adjuster's license required or ability to obtain and maintain required adjuster's licenses
- Strong technical and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required
- Excellent understanding and skill level of internal and external customer service
- Current, in-depth knowledge of specialized claim handling, legal issues, civil procedures, loss compensation values, principles of investigation, adjustment documentation, and evaluation of cases to determine effective course of action
- Exposure to specialties claims handling, particularly employment practices, or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, and Excel)
