Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform diagnostic MRI exams utilizing appropriate imaging equipment, ensuring accurate and high-quality images.
  • Verify patient identity and review medical records to ensure appropriateness of exam or procedure.
  • Interview patients to obtain, verify, or update medical history and assess risk factors, such as medications, pregnancy, and psychological indicators.
  • Explain procedures to patients, including side effects of pharmaceuticals administered, risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up instructions.
  • Set up equipment and acquire appropriate images as per script, ensuring compliance with established protocols.
  • Review images, make initial observations, document exceptions from established protocols, and communicate data to radiologists.
  • Recognize and respond to medical emergencies as appropriate, prioritizing patient safety and well-being.
  • Provide physician-prescribed post-care instructions to patients, ensuring clear understanding and adherence.
  • Participate in process improvement activities within the radiology practice, including quality of care, patient flow, reject-repeat analysis, and patient satisfaction.
  • Provide imaging education to residents, student technologists, and new employees, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
  • Able to take call/standby as required by the department, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.

Qualifications:

  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology (R) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).
  • Required to have or successfully complete American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support – Healthcare Provider (BLS) training by end of orientation period.
  • One or more years of experience as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Radiology (R) or advanced certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT).

Skills Required:

  • Analytical and clinical skills necessary to determine the most age-appropriate method of providing requested radiographs specific to patient's physical ability and/or limitations.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal effectively with and instruct patients who may be under physical/emotional stress, comprehend and follow physicians' verbal and written requests and prescriptions, and work effectively in a culturally diverse atmosphere with a variety of hospital personnel and/or patients.
  • Technical knowledge necessary to operate equipment, including but not limited to all specialized equipment and computers.
  • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of American College of Radiology requirements for accreditation.
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and positioning of patients.
  • Physical ability to stand, bend, push, pull, reach, and lift in order to provide patient care.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate and utilize all types of imaging equipment and supplies in order to produce images of acceptable diagnostic quality.
