Job Purpose

The Automation Technician is responsible for executing technical tasks associated with the manufacturing, assembly, and testing of automated valve assemblies that utilize electrical and pneumatic systems.

Safety Responsibilities

Daily tasks include operating forklift machinery, cranes, and power tools while ensuring a clean and efficient workspace. The technician must be capable of assembling actuators from start to finish and preparing them appropriately for shipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Retrieve stock and purchase items necessary for the assembly and shipment of customer orders or transfers.
  • Inspect all fabricated and procured materials to confirm compliance with customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Document any non-conforming materials and the required corrective actions.
  • Maintain files to ensure certification of compliance with product specifications.
  • Assemble and test mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic automated systems.
  • Conduct assembly on various types of electric or pneumatic systems.
  • Perform pre-installation inspections to support the project team.
  • Act as a liaison for technical and quality issues with local sales representatives.
  • Report customer concerns and technical challenges to local sales representatives.
  • Facilitate communication between the sales office and warehouse to ensure timely deliveries to customers.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with manufacturers and both internal and external customers through written correspondence and proper phone etiquette.
  • Be available 24/7 as needed to assist the Branch Manager.
  • Mount actuators to valves and perform modifications to actuators, including seal and spring changes.
  • Mount and calibrate basic accessories such as limit switches, solenoids, and quick exhausts.
  • Construct panels for accessory mounting.
  • Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of electrical wiring.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Exercise reasonable care for the safety and health of oneself and others; report workplace hazards, injuries, or illnesses immediately.
Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge and abilities to perform essential duties will be considered.

  • High school diploma or GED (General Education Degree) or equivalent experience.
  • One year of mechanical experience.
  • Two years of relevant industry experience, preferably with MRC Global or in a similar environment.
  • Strong understanding of products and processes or the ability to learn.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of gears, bearings, and moving assemblies.
  • Familiarity with electrical and pneumatic equipment usage, including tools and test equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of electricity and electrical components.
  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
  • Capability to learn and operate material handling equipment.
  • Ability to establish rapport with local management, technical sales representatives, warehouse associates, and other personnel using effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in typing and computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook).
  • Knowledge of MRC Global warehouse processes and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics and P&IDs.
