About the Role

The American Bar Association is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead its financial activities and provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director & COO, member leaders, and senior management team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to drive growth and revenue
  • Oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Lead and manage all financial and accounting functions, including long-range financial planning, auditing, tax reporting, and cash management
  • Provide financial updates and recommendations to the Finance Committee, Board of Governors, and other key stakeholders
  • Build and lead a high-performing financial services team, fostering a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and accountability
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • At least 10 years of experience leading teams in finance, accounting, and financial planning
  • Recognized certification as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor, or possession of a Master's Degree in Business Administration
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with a track record of successfully building and developing diverse teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous finance experience in a not-for-profit organization or membership association environment
  • Previous financial reporting experience
