Job Title: Chief Finance Officer

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Finance Officer to lead the organization's financial management and operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Treasurer, Board of Directors, and reports directly to the International President/CEO with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director.

The Chief Finance Officer will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support to the Board of Directors, Corporate staff, and members of the organization. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. The ideal candidate will have a strong focus on performance outcomes, excellent problem-solving skills, and be a strong communicator.

The Chief Finance Officer will assist with leading the corporate finance team on a day-to-day basis, linking the organization's strategies and developing finance initiatives to drive business strategies. The role requires overall responsibility for the organization's finance staff, including talent selection, development, assessment, and reward strategies.

The Chief Finance Officer will interact with external partners and vendors to source quotes and negotiate in the best interest of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with the Executive Director and the International Finance Committee to prepare a comprehensive budget and secure adequate funding for the operations of the organization.
  2. Ensure development and maintenance of all financial records of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. in a manner that is consistent with generally accepted accounting principles.
  3. Provide the Supreme Basileus/President/CEO, Executive Director, and the Board of Directors/Directorate with reliable and timely information on the fiscal conditions of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., to include monthly financial reports.
  4. Apprise the Supreme Tamiouchos of the organization's fund balances and expenditures. Provide budget data to the Finance Committee.
  5. Ensure sufficient internal cash controls are in place and enforced.
  6. Receive and account for all funds; make financial statements available for each meeting of the Board of Directors/Directorate and Finance committee.
  7. Ensure that the organization complies with all legislation covering taxation and withholding payments.
  8. Serve as finance manager of the Boule, Leadership conferences, and International Founder's Day and work with the hostess chapters and all other appropriate persons to assure the management of the financial resources for successful delivery with appropriate conference managers.
  9. Keep abreast of policy and procedures effecting Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated and regularly notify appropriate parties, Supreme Basileus/President/CEO, International Finance Committee, and Board of Directors/Directorate of changes.
  10. Work with staff to implement all aspects of the International Programs as directed by the Supreme Basileus/President/CEO.
  11. Monitor the annual budget and manage operations to meet the approved budget.
  12. Function as the custodian with the Executive Director of all the permanent financial records of the organization.
  13. Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow of the organization.
  14. Prepare the financial statements with approval of the Directorate to the membership on a yearly basis and to the Boule.
  15. Receive and review contracts and recommend approval in liaison with the Executive Director and legal authority.
  16. Participate in fund-raising events when deemed appropriate.
Leadership and Management Responsibilities:
  1. Establish a performance and results-oriented culture through the clear communication and cascade of goals and objectives for staff members and aligned with the strategy set by the Supreme Basileus/President/CEO, Executive Director, and Directorate.
  2. Assess skill level or at minimum annually evaluate and develop skills within the finance organization.
  3. Determine staffing requirements with the Director of Human Resources for organizational management and program delivery.
  4. Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources to implement human resources policies, procedures, and practices relative to managing the finance team.
Requirements:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance or Economics, Accounting, Business, or Business Administration, Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience required; Preferred: CPA, MBA; MPA, Law, or Master's in Finance with business experience or other related professional fields.
  2. 8+ years of progressive management and/or leadership experience in positions involving financial management, contract negotiations, document and proposal writing, and long-range planning.
  3. May be an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Must be in good standing.
  4. Thorough knowledge of the sorority's structure and its governing documents with attendance at regional conferences and/or international meetings within the last 5 years if a member.
  5. Strong leader who can act as a change agent.
  6. Champion for the organization.
  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  8. Ability to handle stressful situations in a tactful and diplomatic manner.
  9. Flexible work hours including weekends. (Regional and Boule Conferences)
  10. Travel extensively throughout the year (approximately 35%).
