Job Title: Safety Specialist

ERG Inc is seeking an experienced Safety Specialist to provide full-time support to health and safety efforts. This role will be based at a federal site in Indian Head, Maryland, in the Washington, DC metro area.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support and manage safety and occupational health programs
  • Participate in program compliance audits by outside organizations
  • Prepare and review standard operating procedures
  • Serve as a key safety reviewer for process manufacturing start-up and approval
  • Perform walkthroughs and safety and health inspections of manufacturing areas, storage facilities, test ranges, laboratories, and administrative spaces
  • Document recommendations and track the status of open actions using databases or spreadsheets
  • Interact with process owners and design teams
  • Participate in hazard analyses and process start-up reviews
  • Review, update, and present training on safety and occupational health topics
  • Support mishap and incident investigations
  • Maintain compliance with Federal, Navy, and local policies
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of safety and occupational health experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health and Safety, or related engineering or science field preferred
  • Strong understanding of 29 CFR 1910
  • Engineers should have experience in reviewing technical data packages and engineering drawings; conducting design reviews with respect to ADA, NFPA, ASHRAE, and/or ANSI compliance; and providing input for hazard identification and mitigation
  • General Industry Certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Associate Safety Professional) preferred but not required
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with explosives safety preferred but not required
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance; Must be a U.S. citizen as this position is not eligible for Limited Access Authorizations
