Job Title: Senior Laboratory Technician / Quality Manager

Hampton Roads Testing Labs is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Laboratory Technician / Quality Manager to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality testing standards while adhering to company, client, and regulatory policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a wide range of tests on samples using specialized equipment and techniques, including determining factors such as moisture and moisture limits, ash, sulfur and its various forms, calorific value, volatile matter, plastic properties, dilatation, swelling, fusibility, trace and major/minor elements.
  • Ensure procedures are performed in accordance with current ASTM/ISO methods, recording and reporting test results promptly, and ensuring that all analytical data generated is accurate.
  • Facilitate and complete in-house and external equipment maintenance and repairs in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, safety & training policies, ASTM/ISO, and all required operating procedures.
  • Lead internal and external quality assurance programs and participation in industry testing standards organizations.
  • Assist the Lab Manager with research into and implementation of new methods and standard operating procedures, and support method development into viable new testing services.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a science related field.
  • Minimum of five years of analytical experience working within a materials testing company; coal testing experience and mass spectrometry experience are preferred.
  • Proficiency with Wet Lab methods and testing.
  • Minimum of five years in a progressive supervisory or management role.
  • Proficiency in operation, calibration, and maintenance of analytical lab test equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; general computer, mathematics, and science knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, prioritize, problem solve, multi-task, and meet deadlines with accuracy.
  • Ability to collaborate and work efficiently in teams, as well as independently and unsupervised, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with analytical chemistry techniques and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to plan and prioritize workload.
  • Knowledge of ASTM Methods and ISO standards
