Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Nurse PICC Specialist to join our team at Good Samaritan Hospital. As a key member of our Infusion Therapy Department, you will be responsible for providing professional nursing care to patients requiring Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) Lines and/or Midlines.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patients with difficult access or need for long-term IV therapy for appropriate vascular access device placement.
  • Collaborate with staff nurses, physicians, case managers, and other team members to ensure early assessment for VAD selection and implementation.
  • Participate in education with vascular access education for patients, family members, and staff.
  • Review physicians' orders, obtain consent, and review medical records for any contraindications of peripheral vascular access.
  • Determine the best vascular access device for the patient based on medications, current access status, diagnoses, length of IV therapy, and other factors.
  • Report directly to the Systems Director of Infection Prevention & Control and troubleshoot difficult complications of VADs or assist staff in troubleshooting.
  • Document completely and accurately in the patient's permanent medical record.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years of nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing required; a bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing preferred.
  • Current New York State RN licensure required. Current BLS required. Valid PICC Insertion Certification required.
