Job Summary
We are looking for technicians who want to utilize their skills to the fullest potential in a fast-paced, fun, and stimulating environment. Our ICU team functions with a great deal of autonomy and responsibility, requiring solid technical skills, sound judgment, excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to work both independently and with a team.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide nursing care to critically ill hospitalized patients in conjunction with specialty and emergency veterinarians.
- Participate in nurse rounds, triage incoming patients, assess patient stability, and obtain patient vital signs.
- Perform diagnostics and treatments of emergency and hospitalized patients, including hourly patient assessment and monitoring, observing patients, and recognizing changes in status.
- Place peripheral and central catheters, restrain patients for exams and treatments, set up and administer IV and SQ fluids, maintain urinary catheters, and bandage removal and application.
- Perform suture and drain removal, administer injectable medications, and maintain isolation protocols for infectious patients.
- Basic wound cleaning and care, administer injectable and inhalant anesthesia, monitor patients while under anesthesia, and maintain a monitoring log.
- Monitor patients during recovery from anesthesia, obtain samples for and perform in-house laboratory testing, and assist in CPCR.
Required Education and Experience
- Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
- 2+ years as a veterinary assistant or technician in a fast-paced veterinary hospital, preferably in a specialty or emergency setting.
