Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Payroll/Travel Accountant to join our team at the Texas Department of Banking. As a key member of our accounting team, you will be responsible for performing complex payroll and travel accounting work, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and Department policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly and supplemental payrolls, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
- Reconcile payroll information prior to fiscal and calendar year end rollover in CAPPS.
- Audit and approve travel reimbursement vouchers for compliance with state rules and Department policy.
- Interpret changes in legislation affecting travel rules and regulations and assist in formulating and updating Department travel policy.
- Train new employees on travel rules and regulations and conduct in-person or virtual travel training for Department staff.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in accounting, finance, management, business administration, or related field.
- Four years of experience in Texas state government accounting.
- Three years of experience using Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) for payroll processing.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in payroll processing for medium to large size agencies.
- Prior experience in travel voucher processing for medium to large size agencies.
Working Conditions:
This position requires the incumbent to primarily perform sedentary office work, with occasional mobility required to carry out some duties. The job also requires normal cognitive abilities, including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies.
