Key Responsibilities:
  • Packaging, weighing, closing, and torquing waste containers to ensure safe transportation and storage.
  • Assisting with sampling efforts of different waste types to ensure accurate characterization and disposal.
  • Participating in internal, programmatic, and regulatory audits and assessments to ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
  • Creating technical reports and summaries to document waste data and management activities.
  • Implementing internal applications to record waste from cradle to grave, ensuring accurate tracking and management.
  • Operating mechanical lifting equipment, including forklifts, to safely move and handle waste containers.
  • Managing RCRA waste storage areas, including knowledge of chemical storage, segregation, and handling requirements.
Requirements:
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to the handling of Low-Level Waste and hazardous materials.
  • Ability to work with radioactive or other hazardous materials as dictated by programmatic needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a conscientious, professional, and responsible manner in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Success in providing good customer service and interacting effectively with a variety of organizations.
  • Ability to obtain a Q-clearance and Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification.
  • Training and certification in Radworker, HAZWOPER, RCRA, Forklift, CDL, and Air Purifying Respiratory Protection.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2-4 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
  • Position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and 4-6 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following: NNSS Waste Acceptance Criteria (WAC), LANL WAC, and the LANL New Mexico Environmental Department permit.
  • Experience with nuclear criticality safety, material control and accountability, radiological protection, safety basis compliance, waste minimization, and waste management.
  • Working knowledge of Low-Level Waste or other regulated waste packaging requirements.
  • Successful experience with accounting/management systems such as WCATS.
Work Environment:

The work environment may include working outdoors, working alone, working overtime or irregular schedules, and exposure to chemical environments.

Work Location:

The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM.
