About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Music Therapist to join our team at Treasure Coast. As a Music Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing music therapy services to patients, families, and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Implement music therapy assessments with patients and families, in accordance with the interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Guide patients in the use of creative therapeutic activities to improve or maintain mental and physical functions and quality of life.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of music therapy services with patients.
  • Document all services provided to patients and families in the clinical record.
  • Instruct other care team members, including hospice aides, volunteers, and family members, in the use of music to achieve individualized care plan goals.
  • Provide in-services to staff, hospitals, nursing homes, and other related facilities as requested and determined appropriate by supervisor.
  • Participate in special events when appropriate and allowable due to regular scheduled duties.
  • Follow appropriate standards of practice as set forth by the American Music Therapy Association and the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization.
  • Educate and provide in-services to hospice staff members and community members on the appropriate use of the music therapy program and encourage referrals from all clinical staff and volunteers.
  • Use music therapy to treat a variety of medical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, and social needs of patients/families in an age-appropriate manner, consistent with patient/family cultures, religions, and values.
  • Participate in weekly IDT care planning meetings and contribute the music therapist's perspective of the clinical needs of patients/families while educating team members about the use of music therapy in meeting care plan needs.
  • Provide in-services regarding the use of music therapy in hospice to staff and community members.
  • Maintain a high level of urgency, customer consciousness, and service excellence.
Requirements
  • CBMT Board Certification and compliance with continuing music therapy education requirements.
  • Masters' Degree in Music Therapy preferred.
  • Effective customer service orientation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate musical skills with competence and include soothing singing, guitar, and piano proficiency and knowledge of other recreational instruments.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of music therapy research and use best practices in clinical interventions.
  • Ability to recognize patient/family strengths and weaknesses as well as their support systems.
  • Ability to assess, provide, and interpret age-related data and interpret age-specific responses to symptom management in treatment.
