Key Responsibilities:

As a Lead Financial Analyst, you will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal control protocols. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the administration of city credit cards, reconciling financial statements, and preparing monthly sales tax reports. Your expertise will be vital in managing fixed assets, including their acquisition, disposal, and depreciation.

You will work closely with project managers and engineers, monitoring expenses and capitalizing fixed assets in accordance with city policies. Additionally, you will contribute to significant initiatives such as capital improvements and special projects, ensuring precise financial reporting and compliance with governmental accounting standards.

Primary Duties
  • Ensure adherence to statutes, generally accepted accounting principles, and internal control policies. Manage the City's credit card transactions, including payments, postings, and internal audits.
  • Oversee the maintenance and reconciliation of fixed assets through acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation. Prepare reports for annual financial submissions.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to track costs and capitalize fixed assets according to established policies.
  • Engage in new and evolving projects, which may include capital improvements and service expansions.
  • Prepare updates for the Capital Improvement Plans.
  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries and reconciliations for monthly financial closings, as well as the distribution of financial statements.
  • Review budget and cost reports for accuracy and compliance with governmental accounting standards.
  • Support the review of financial activities in both General and Enterprise funds to monitor spending levels and expenses.
  • Provide assistance to staff regarding financial systems and accounting procedures.
  • Prepare various reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders as directed.
  • Participate in software testing and system upgrades.
  • Propose corrective action plans as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • A four-year degree in Accounting with 2-4 years of relevant experience in a comprehensive accounting environment, preferably in local government, or an Associate degree in Accounting with 3-5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's in Business Administration and/or Certified Public Accountant designation.
  • Familiarity with Tyler-Munis accounting software.
Additional Requirements
  • Independence: Ability to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Communication Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills with colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Extensive experience with financial systems and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Word.
