Key Responsibilities:


The Division of Campus Dining at New York Institute of Technology is seeking a part-time Cafe Service Associate to join our team at the Manhattan Cafe.

Reporting to the Area Supervisor, the Associate will be responsible for:

Service Duties:
  • Learning to expertly operate the espresso machine and prepare a variety of coffee beverages according to established recipes.
  • Communicating with the shift lead and Culinary Operations Manager regarding any supplies needed for the coffee bar at the end of each shift.
  • Assisting in the preparation and setup of breakfast offerings, including pastries and sandwiches.
  • Helping to prepare and arrange lunch items for service, such as salads and hot food displays.
  • Ensuring the cashier's station is ready for service at the designated time.
  • Maintaining a log of errors and customer returns, reporting these to the supervisor daily.
  • Participating in special events on campus as required.


Customer Engagement:
  • Welcoming customers upon entry and expressing gratitude for their patronage upon exit.
  • Delivering prompt, courteous, and efficient service to all customers.
  • Addressing customer feedback and reporting relevant comments to management.


Operational Duties:
  • Replenishing and cleaning the service area during quieter periods.
  • Documenting low inventory items alongside the shift lead to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Assisting cooks as needed, including food setup and service to students.
  • Supporting the Chef in food preparation and presentation at the deli counter.


Maintenance and Sanitation:
  • Contributing to daily cleaning tasks in the dining area and seating zones.
  • Operating dishwashing equipment and cleaning utensils.
  • Ensuring compliance with hygiene standards while handling food and equipment.
  • Completing sanitation checklists for regular cleaning schedules.


Qualifications:


Applicants should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or relevant experience.
  • Progress towards Serve-Safe Certification and adherence to HACCP policies.
  • A valid NYC Health Department certificate.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and mathematical skills.
  • The ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.


Physical Requirements:


Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
