Job Overview

The New York Institute of Technology, a prestigious institution dedicated to higher education, is seeking a full-time Cafe Service Attendant for our Manhattan Cafe located on the NYC campus. This role is integral to our Campus Dining division, where the successful candidate will report directly to the Area Supervisor.



Key Responsibilities

The Cafe Service Attendant will be responsible for:

  • Operational Duties: Mastering the operation of espresso machines to prepare and serve coffee beverages according to established recipes, ensuring timely service.
  • Inventory Management: Communicating any required items for the coffee bar to the shift lead and Culinary Operations Manager at the end of each shift.
  • Food Preparation: Assisting in the setup and preparation of breakfast and lunch items, including pastries, sandwiches, and salads.
  • Customer Engagement: Greeting customers warmly upon arrival and thanking them for their patronage as they leave, while providing prompt and courteous service.
  • Maintenance and Cleanliness: Ensuring the service area is replenished and clean during less busy periods, and maintaining hygiene standards in compliance with NYC guidelines.
  • Team Support: Assisting cooks as needed and being flexible to work in various capacities across campus dining locations.


Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Current or in-progress Serve-Safe Certification and valid NYC Health Department certificate.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and the ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds.
