The Facilities Maintenance Specialist is tasked with executing all standard cleaning, maintenance, and replenishment of supplies within designated facilities. Additionally, this role encompasses any other cleaning responsibilities as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conducts all routine cleaning, maintenance, and supply replenishment in assigned facilities.
  • Performs sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, restroom sanitation, window washing, and other duties as directed, adhering to established procedures. This may include offices, residence halls, and various campus buildings.
  • Disposes of waste in designated areas, sanitizes, and replaces liners in waste containers as necessary.
  • Responsible for detailed tasks such as polishing metal fixtures, cleaning drinking fountains, dusting surfaces, corners, baseboards, and all furniture while respecting the privacy of individuals.
  • Adheres to proper recycling protocols; reports any damages or malfunctions observed in assigned areas; replaces burnt-out light bulbs.
  • Assists with cleaning and supporting special events on campus; clears snow and applies sand at building entrances, as well as aids in snow removal during winter months.
  • Follows key sign-in and sign-out protocols; implements technical and safety methods as instructed by supervisors.
  • Utilizes all cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety data sheets to prevent property damage and ensure personal safety.
  • Accepts additional responsibilities as required.

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum educational qualifications and licenses required.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for at least one year and maintain an insurable driving record; must successfully complete the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; undergo annual or more frequent reviews of the driving record based on the College's insurer's criteria; and complete safety training as mandated by management.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • At least 6 months of prior cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination and training in compliance with OSHA regulations; must maintain both throughout the duration of employment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, demonstrating courtesy and respect. Regular interaction with students, faculty, staff, and officials is expected.
  • Familiarity with cleaning methods, materials, and equipment, along with the ability to operate mechanical cleaning devices.
  • Capability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, students, and faculty.
  • Flexibility to work independently, as well as collaboratively, and to adapt to varying shifts as needed.

Working Conditions:

Must be available to work weekends, overtime, and during special events as required.

A. Physical Environment:

  • Regular exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, precarious locations, hazardous chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme heat.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Typically moderate noise levels.

B. Physical Demands:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, communicate, and utilize senses.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Regularly climb and/or balance up to 10 feet, and occasionally climb and/or balance up to 20 feet.
  • Regular use of close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly required to use hands for various tasks including handling, feeling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
