Position Summary
We are seeking a talented Lead Mechanical Design Engineer who will collaborate with clients to transition their products from early-stage prototypes to full-scale production. Our culture emphasizes rapid learning and adaptability to meet the unique challenges of each project. The following skills are essential for success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Engineering:

  • Utilize SolidWorks software to create functional components and assemblies.
  • Exhibit mastery in modeling, surfacing, and sheet metal design techniques.
  • Manage complex assemblies, Bill of Materials (BOM), and 2D drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with manufacturing and prototyping tools, including manual mills, lathes, and 3D printers.
  • Employ HSMWorks for safe part creation on CNC mills.
  • Apply sound engineering practices to develop comprehensive system-level solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members and clients to generate innovative conceptual designs.
  • Validate concepts through mathematical simulations or rapid physical prototypes.
  • Refine designs into detailed CAD structures.
  • Develop and manage system-level BOMs.
  • Create and update product specifications and requirements.
  • Draft and execute testing protocols and reports, analyzing data effectively.
  • Integrate electronics, firmware, software, industrial design, and user experience considerations.
  • Oversee the assembly process.
  • Identify and manage relationships with key component suppliers.
  • Assist in the assembly and delivery of finished systems, including training and hands-on fabrication.
  • Design and construct assembly and testing fixtures.
  • Facilitate the transition of designs to production.
  • Generate production-level drawings and process instructions, including inspection criteria.
  • Implement system part numbers, design revisions, and engineering controls.
  • Support research and provision of necessary commercial or regulatory certifications.
  • Design for manufacturability and assembly, including tolerance analysis.
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis, verification, and validation.
  • Manage manufacturing partners, confirming their capabilities, cycle times, and yield rates.

Project Management:

  • Self-motivated individual capable of generating and managing project timelines and budgets.
  • Ability to handle multiple clients and projects, overseeing them from inception to completion.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead a team of 2-10 individuals, including vendors, employees, interns, and client personnel.
  • Research and implement new technologies and systems to enhance competitive advantage.
  • Engage in proactive and professional communication with clients regarding design decisions and technical details.
  • Prepare quotes and proposals, detailing project specifications, timelines, and budget estimates.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • 5-10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Over 10,000 hours of experience with SolidWorks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in medical device regulation.
