Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Electrical Communications Specialist to join our team at the City of Fort Collins - Light & Power. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our high voltage electric distribution system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, test, repair, maintain, and calibrate protective relay equipment, SCADA equipment, transducers, and related equipment.
  • Install and terminate control, metering, and wiring related to protective relay switchboards and substation electrical equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair electronic and electromechanical components used in SCADA, telemetry, and relay equipment.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to substation maintenance and operational procedures.
  • Provide input to budget development, prepare budget documents, and authorize equipment purchases.
  • Assist with specifications, installation, and maintenance of telephone, radio, and fiber optic communications to SCADA and specific substation equipment.
  • Specify equipment to interface SCADA with other equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Provide training, maintenance, and troubleshooting assistance for SCADA and substation systems.
  • Provide technical management of Light and Power's 900 MHz radio communication system.
  • Participate in NERC audits and perform testing of relays and relay protection schemes to meet NERC requirements.
  • Perform high voltage switching when required.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge of FCC and OSHA regulations and the National Electric Code and National Electric Safety Code.
  • Working knowledge of NERC audit and testing requirements and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Capital Projects Procedures.
  • Computer/Auto CAD skills.
  • Experience with programmable control systems.
  • Good interpersonal, supervisory, and team/project management skills.
