Job Summary

The Senior Field Engineer supports and manages operations in the field, providing accurate information to project controls on work activities accomplished in the field. This role assists superintendents and foremen in building work accurately based on drawings and specifications, and reports to the project engineer. A successful field engineer will need to interface between craft supervision, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and members of the project team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimate Turnover and Budgeting
    • Participate in estimate turnover meetings to ensure accurate budgeting and project planning.
    • Perform quantity takeoffs to determine material and labor requirements.
    • Assist in converting estimates to controlled budgets and setting up job files.
  • Submittal and Safety Coordination
    • Coordinate and review submittals to ensure compliance with project specifications.
    • Attend and participate in daily and weekly safety meetings to promote a safe working environment.
  • Quantity and Cost Management
    • Manage quantities and perform quantity takeoffs as required.
    • Procure and schedule subcontractors and materials to ensure crews' needs are met.
    • Manage subcontractors and suppliers with the support of staff, superintendents, and foremen.
  • Project Documentation and Close-Out
    • Assist in work plan development and monitoring with project engineer, superintendents, and foremen.
    • Manage quantity and cost reporting as accurately as possible, reporting results to superintendents and foremen.
    • Assist with change order pricing and participate in the project document control process.
    • Maintain accurate records of project drawings and specifications.
    • Participate in the project close-out process and finalize cost report quantities used for payment applications and project reports.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Assist in the preparation and maintenance of As-Built drawings.
    • Maintain a strong working knowledge of Microsoft programs, such as Excel and Word.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships with project stakeholders, including owners, vendors, and subcontractors.
    Requirements
    • Education and Experience
      • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a similar discipline is preferred.
      • 3-5 years' recent heavy highway, road, and bridge construction experience is required.
      • Medium to large project experience ($10M+) is required.
    • Skills and Abilities
      • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
      • Strong leadership skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
      • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively.
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface with diverse stakeholders.
