Director of Operations

Kearfott Corporation, a global Aerospace and Defense supplier, seeks a seasoned Director of Operations to lead its Motion Systems Division (MSD). This critical role oversees all manufacturing operations, including Materials Management, Machine Shop Production, Final Assembly and Test, Maintenance, and Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S).

The successful candidate will be a strategic leader, leveraging their expertise to develop a high-performing operations department that drives double-digit growth. They will champion Lean Manufacturing principles, driving continuous improvement and efficiency across the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Operations team to meet key customer and business performance metrics.
  • Set and achieve goals and metrics for areas of responsibility in support of overall MSD business goals.
  • Ensure on-time delivery that meets customer requirements and expectations for quality and performance.
  • Collaborate with the Division Staff to ensure continuity across functional areas and support divisional initiatives.
  • Develop and implement manufacturing standards, methods, metrics, and processes to improve consistency and delivery.
  • Support Root Cause/Corrective action initiatives, the Six Sigma Council, Green and Yellow Belt programs, 5S, Lean, and other manufacturing programs.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Operations associates to ensure understanding and attainment of performance objectives.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives to reduce waste, inventory, and lead times.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture, ensuring buy-in and ownership at all levels of the organization.
  • Identify and implement best practices across the site.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, particularly those related to safety.

Critical Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of operations functions, including Material Management, Assembly and Test, Machining, and Planning.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to think on your feet and make quick decisions.
  • Ability to prioritize work and communicate priorities clearly.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Enterprise Requirement Planning (ERP) and/or Manufacturing Requirements Planning (MRP) functions.
  • Sense of urgency to meet customer quality and delivery requirements.
  • Aerospace and Defense manufacturing experience.
  • Ability to attract and retain talent.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in an associated discipline, advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years' experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably military/aerospace and commercial aircraft.
  • Consistent history of increased responsibility and achievement in production or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop direct reports.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work as a collaborative member of a site leadership team.
