Job Summary

Prairie Lakes AEA is seeking a highly skilled Special Education Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our division, you will collaborate with school personnel and parents to address the emotional, academic, cognitive, behavioral, and vocational needs of children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with educators, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Conduct assessments and develop Tier 2 and 3 intervention plans to support students with challenging behaviors.
  • Model and coach school personnel to develop and implement behavior plans.
  • Provide short-term individual and group interventions as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of each student served and provide coaching on assessment methods.
  • Facilitate the Problem Treatment Response (PTR) process and conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments.
  • Support special education teachers in developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs.
  • Assist schools with technical assistance and ongoing monitoring of progress toward measurable goals.
  • Participate in design, implementation, and interpretation of research from single-subject or group designs.
  • Remain current in research, training, and professional practices in the field.
  • Provide in-service training and technical assistance to school personnel, families, and community agencies.
  • Serve as a liaison to access specialized school resources, AEA services, and community services.
  • Collaborate with other professionals and agencies to improve client services.
Requirements
  • Masters Degree in Education and endorsement in Special Education.
  • Certification as a Consultant as determined by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners.
  • Four years of successful teaching experience with at least 2 years in Special Education.
  • Ability to travel between schools and sites served.
Working Conditions

Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision, and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that cannot always be anticipated.
