Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Research Associate II to join our team at the Public Health Institute. This is a regular full-time hybrid position located in Sacramento, CA, with the possibility of remote work.

The successful candidate will support short- and long-term research projects, including data collection, management, and analysis. They will work closely with the Research Scientist III to ensure the day-to-day data collection work is going according to plan and identify potential issues that may risk achieving project goals.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in epidemiology or a related field, with experience in data collection and analysis. They will possess excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

We offer a competitive salary range of $27.57 to $39.31 per hour, with a typical hiring range of $27.57 to $33.44 per hour. The starting wage will be determined based on the candidate's knowledge, skills, and experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports day-to-day routine of short and long-term research projects, including recruitment of study participants, data collection, and other research-related efforts.
  • Works with data collection team to ensure timely collection and processing of data and ensures quality of data collected.
  • Contacts treatment facilities and laboratories to request/verify information relevant for cancer surveillance or research projects, including obtaining biospecimen and medical records.
  • Obtains, processes, and ensures quality of data collected.
  • Assists with data cleaning, management, and statistical analysis of registry data using tools such as SAS, R, and SEER*Stat.
  • Prepares tables and figures using cancer data.
  • Follows standard operating procedures, protocols, and quality controls as required in research projects.
  • Conducts literature reviews and assists with the development of research protocols, technical documents, and reports, as well as manuscripts and conference presentations.
  • Assists with response to data requests and data disclosures, effectively communicating with external researchers and community members.
  • Works remotely and in the Sacramento office as required.
  • Travels within and outside California for outreach research projects or other work activities as required.
Requirements
  • 2 years of experience in epidemiological or other relevant research work involving human subjects and data collection.
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, epidemiology, or a quantitative field, or substitute with four additional years of related experience.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with study team as well as external researchers, facilities, and study participants.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in small groups.
  • Ability to progress on several projects concurrently.
  • Strong computer skills required, with specific experience with Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and some experience with statistical tools such as SAS, R, or SEER*Stat preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred (bilingual).
  • Ability to work remotely and in the Sacramento office as required.
  • Ability to travel within and outside California for outreach research projects or other work activities as required.
