Job Summary

A Polysomnographic Technologist plays a crucial role in the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders at Corewell Health. This position requires the ability to work under general supervision, providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information to identify and meet patient-specific needs.
  • Complete and verify documentation, explain procedures to patients, and prepare and calibrate testing equipment.
  • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards and follow departmental procedural protocols.
  • Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to center-specific protocols and generate accurate reports.
  • Implement appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for optimal patient safety and therapeutic intervention.
  • Work closely with staff members, trainees, and students to provide instruction, education, and precept/mentor in order to deliver optimal testing results.
Requirements
  • Formal training in polysomnography program and/or enrollment in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.
  • 1 year of relevant experience and 1-3 years of preferred experience.
  • CRT-Polysomnographic Technologist - BRPT Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or CRT-Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care or CRT-Registered Sleep Technologist - ABSM American Board of Sleep Medicine or CRT-At least one Certification from preferred list - UNKNOWN Unknown.
Physical Demands

The Polysomnographic Technologist will be required to perform tasks that involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 35 pounds. The position also requires sitting, standing, walking, and reaching, as well as handling and forceful grip and pinch.

Work Environment

The Polysomnographic Technologist will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with patients, staff, and other healthcare professionals. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
